Abstract

The study examined mobile technology usage among Computer Science educators during the Coronavirus school closure in Nigeria. A total of 200 questionnaires were administered online to Computer Science educators, selected through a purposive random sampling technique from various tertiary institutions across the country. The collected data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, regression, and ANOVA. The results revealed that the use of mobile technologies had a statistically significant effect on the educational activities of Computer Science educators who participated in the study. Findings also indicated a significant relationship between participants’ perceptions of mobile technology and their extent of usage for educational purposes during the school closure. Mobile technologies such as smartphones, laptops, tablets, e-readers, notebooks, smartwatches, PDAs, and videoconferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Meet) were commonly used by the participants to support their educational activities. However, several factors were found to inhibit usage. These included small screen sizes, poor network connectivity, frequent power outages, high data costs, ignorance, transition challenges, and functionality issues.
